Training for Sheriff’s Dept. members

The St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday approved a request for out-of-state travel for a team of four members from the county sheriff’s department.

In a memo from Captain Tim Schuler, it was explained that training provided through the National Sheriff’s Association will take place June 18-20 in Nashville, Tenn.

Schuler said seminars will focus on matters including corrections and court-security settings, risk management and jail safety, legal affairs and inmate grievances.

The $1,900 expense to cover food, lodging and seminar costs will come from the department’s training fund.

Joining Schuler will be Sgts. Don Heath, Jim Hasbrouck and Eric Van Heukelum.
