Shirlie Oberle, 83

Shirlie Mae Oberle, age 83, of Columbus, peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, December 29, 2012.

She was born to the late Ethan Lyle and Lena Mae Miller on September 23, 1929 in Vandalia, MI. Shirlie graduated from Constantine High School class of 1947. It was there she met her high school sweetheart and husband of 60 years, Jack Oberle. Shirlie was proud of her career as a secretary for Aid Association for Lutherans. She also worked for Fairbanks Morse in Michigan. A devoted mother and wife, she loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed nature and seeing deer, watching sports, and she was a longtime member of the Lutheran Church.

In addition to her parents, Shirlie was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Ellen and Phyllis Ann; mother-in-law, Margaret Mae Harvey. She is survived by her loving husband, Jack; children, Douglas Preston Oberle, Lisa Loreene (Bruce) Matthies, Janet Elaine (Keith) Stichtenoth; grandchildren, Bridget Matthies, Jamie (Brian) Snyder, Benjamin VanderHorst, Kelly Matthies, Julia (Todd) Merett, and Allison VanderHorst; great-grandchild, Keegan Toth; several nieces and nephews, Candace Spurlock, David McNeal, Randall McNeal, Vienna Bowling, and Bruce Kittle; extended family and friends.

Friends may call from 10 am-12 pm on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the ELEY FUNERAL HOME, 280 S. Washington St., Constantine, MI 49042 where the funeral service will begin at 12pm. Pastor Dennis Smith officiating. Interment at Poe’s Cemetery.
