Forums for proposed millage-increase

A committee supporting a proposed millage-increase being sought by White Pigeon Community Schools kicked off its campaign last week.

The Yes Committee, whose members are promoting participation in the May 6 request, plans to maintain a visible presence at school-related and public functions over the next three months. Co-chair Jody Davidson said the committee is also helping the public understand details of the 1-mill, $1.6 million request.

The district made critical building and energy-efficiency improvements through a $5 million sinking fund in 2007 and its renewal in 2012. Superintendent Ron Drzewicki said terms of a sinking fund limited the way the money could be spent.

If the millage is approved, the district plans to invest in buses, equipment, security and technology.

Community forums related to the millage will take place at 7 p.m. March 6 and April 24 at Central Elementary School.
