August primary election

Last week’s filing deadline for the August primary election shows uncontested races at the county level, but two of the county’s five commissioners will face a challenge in November.

First District Commissioner Al Balog is running as a Republican and will be opposed by Democrat Del Martin.

Meanwhile, incumbent Rick Shaffer will represent the Republican party and will be contested by Tim Carls, a Democrat, for the board’s Third District.

Incumbents Don Eaton, Robin Baker and John Dobberteen are unopposed.

In other contests, 59th House District candidates Aaron Miller, Bob Sills, John Bippus and Roger Rathburn are the Republicans who will square off in August. The winner will oppose Mike Moroz in November.

U.S. Representative incumbent Fred Upton will face a primary challenge from Jim Bussler. The victor goes up against Democrat Paul Clements in November.
