Sturgis to receive grant to upgrade roadway

State Rep. Aaron Miller on Tuesday announced that Sturgis will receive a state grant to upgrade a major roadway linking U.S. 12 to a local industrial park.
Miller said the Transportation Economic Development Grant, in excess of $171,000, will be used to upgrade White School Road from U.S. 12 to Progress Street, and Progress Street to the west Sturgis city limits.
The grants provide for urban roads to be upgraded to all-season status, which will support the economic activity in the industrial park and keep Michigan businesses open year-round, Miller said.
The St. Joseph County Road Commission will match the Michigan Department of Transportation grant with more than $42,000, bringing the total cost of the project to $214,148, Miller said.
