Project gets go ahead in Sturgis

A downtown Sturgis redevelopment project on the city’s drawing board for nearly 18 months received unanimous final approval by the Sturgis City Commission last week after changes to the initial plan.
Inquire Partners, developer for the planned Moso Village site bounded by Clay and John streets, recently modified the plan approved by the city in 2013, requiring both the city commission and planning board to revisit approvals.
The mixed-use proposal has expanded its footprint with the acquisition of the current Sturgis Journal property on John Street and now calls for 12 apartments to be included in the development, replacing the office space initially proposed.
Developers are also removing a green space and digital signage included in the 2013 plan.
City commissioners last Wednesday approved a second reading amending city ordinances, necessitated by the plan changes, and the new preliminary site plan. The project still requires the Sturgis Planning Commission to review and approve a final site plan.
