GOCC celebrates graduation

Glen Oaks Community College celebrated its 48th graduation ceremony Friday, when nearly 200 certificates or degrees were awarded to 175 students.
College officials said 113 people took part in the ceremony.
According to data compiled by the college, the average graduate is 26 1/2 years old, with the youngest graduate 18 years of age and the oldest, 66. The average grade point average was 3.30.
A number of award recipients were recognized. They included Perri Saunders as the Distinguished Alumni Award winner; Fellows Award recipients Lucy Zimmerman and Tom Soper; Stewart Nickell, Adjunct Faculty Teaching Excellence Award winner; Patricia Oswalt for the Outstanding Service Award; and Hans W. Miller, who received the President’s Award. The honor recognizes a student who has been nominated by the faculty for high achievement in academics.
