Obama to make another visit to Indiana’s Elkhart County

President Barack Obama has scheduled another visit to Elkhart. During the June 1 visit, the president will participate in a town hall meeting to discuss the economic progress Elkhart and the nation have made, the remaining economic challenges and decisions that must be made, the White House said in a statement Tuesday. It will be Obama’s third trip to Elkhart County since becoming president. On Feb. 9, 2009, Obama held a town hall event and said if Congress did not quickly pass an economic stimulus package, the nation would slip into a crisis so deep that “we may be unable to reverse” it. Unemployment in Elkhart County reached 18.9 percent in March 2009. Next week, Obama can point to an April unemployment rate in Elkhart of about 4 percent.   (AP)
