Sheriff’s deputy, wife fatally shot near Battle Creek

Authorities in southern Michigan are investigating the shooting deaths of a Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputy and his wife.

The bodies were found in Emmett Township, southwest of Battle Creek, about 7:50 a.m. Sunday. Emmett Township Police Chief Mike Olson tells the Battle Creek Enquirer the bodies of a man and a woman were found in the back yard of a house by a family member.

He says both died from apparent gunshot wounds and a handgun was found at the scene. Olson says the shootings “are possibly domestic related.”

Sheriff Matt Saxton said in a prepared statement the man had been a deputy with the department for 18 years.

The names of the couple have not been released pending positive identification and notification of family.  (AP)
