CINCINNATI, OH – The alarm clock went off early for the Kalamazoo Wings (6-6-0-1) on Tuesday as they tangled with the Cincinnati Cyclones for a 10:30 am start at the US Bank Arena. The Cyclones defeated the K-Wings 3-0 last Friday at Wings Event Center.

A busy first period saw both teams put 10 shots on the board but ended quietly as neither team was able to hit the scoreboard.

The Cyclones came out of the locker room fired up to start the second period. Tommy Mele blasted a slap shot that sailed over the pads of K-Wing netminder Nick Riopel to give the home team a 1-0 lead.

Coming back with a goal of their own ten minutes later, the K-Wings Anthony Camara pushed the puck to Charlie Vasaturo at the blue line where he sent a slap shot that escaped the Cyclones goaltender Michael Houser to knot the game at one goal apiece. Tanner Sorenson also had an assist on the goal.
Looking for more offense in the third period, Michael Trebish was able to get the puck to Dajon Mingo who passed it to Sorenson at the blue line who then sent a shot that landed in the back of the net to give the K-Wings a 2-1 lead midway into the period.
As time ticked down in the final period, and the Houser pulled for the extra attacker, a holding minor on Ben Wilson put the K-Wings down a man. However, a Justin Taylor empty net goal sealed the win for the K-Wings as they skated off with a 3-1 victory.
Remaining on the road, the K-Wings will travel to Toledo to face the Walleye at the Huntington Center.. You can listen to all K-Wings games on AM 1660 The Fan in Kalamazoo or online at www.1660thefan.com/listen-live.
K-Wings News and Notes: Riopel has allowed four goals or fewer in four of his first six starts… Kalamazoo’s 33 shots on goal were the most since October 28… Tyler Biggs led the Wings with seven shots on goal… The Wings are 1-1-0 against Cincinnati this season… Kalamazoo’s four penalty minutes set a new season low.
