Ivan Hamm, 90

Ivan F. Hamm, age 90, Centreville, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2017 at Millers Merry Manor, LaGrange. He was born May 22, 1926 in Custer, MI, a son of Joseph and Mabel (Frantz) Hamm. Ivan graduated from Centreville High School with the class of 1944. In his early years, he farmed and later became a perfectionist carpenter. Ivan managed his parent’s apartments in Ann Arbor, MI, where he lived over 50 years, until moving back in this area a year ago. He had many interests, however, farming never left his heart, as he took a deep interest in all aspects, including machinery, to details of production. Ivan loved traveling, was an avid reader, loved his family and was an important part of his ten nieces and nephews lives. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren, Constantine. He will be remembered as being kind and compassionate, as he had a heart for the unfortunate. He was willing to help others in any way. Ivan will be missed by his family and all who knew him.

Surviving are sisters, Lucille Smeltzer and LaVonne Borgert, both of Sturgis. Also nieces and nephews, Rod, Pamela, Priscilla, Patricia, Paula, Perry, Doug, Lois and Bruce. Ivan was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Eldon and Otho Hamm, sister-in-law Mabel Hamm, brothers-in-law Lowell Smeltzer and Daniel Borgert, and niece Carolyn Arond.

In keeping with Ivan’s wishes, cremation was conducted and a memorial service will be held at a future date. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to: Church of the Brethren (1451 Dundee Ave, Elgin, IL 60120), Mercy Ships (PO Box 1930, Garden Valley, TX 75771), or to the Salvation Army.
