Road commission approves truck purchase

St. Joseph County road commissioners last week approved the purchase of two new Peterbilt asphalt distributors, according to agency manager Chris Minger.
Minger said the road commission’s garage workers will be able to convert the vehicles into trucks to be used for snowplowing.
Cost for the two trucks, two tar tanks, underbody scrapers, wing plows and underbody hydraulics is about $638,000. Minger noted Peterbilt granted a price extension from the previous time the Road Commission purchased a truck.
He said the price is a bit more for each truck than he would have liked to have paid, but the commission will gain a truck that can be used year-round.
The trucks being replaced were purchased around the year 2000, Minger said.
