Glen Oaks moves forward with renovation plans

Glen Oaks Community College Board of Trustees voted Tuesday to move forward with a USDA loan application for concourse renovation.

The loan is for up to $2.2 million, according to Glen Oaks president David Devier.

He said the interest rate for the loan has been locked in at 3.79 percent. Devier anticipates closing as early as next week, and then the project will be put to bid and a contractor identified.

Also Tuesday, trustees discussed the possibility of pursuing a millage. Letters were mailed recently to 21,000 registered voters in the district, explaining the proposal, which addresses building improvements.

A task force will meet June 6, review the surveys and make a suggestion about whether the college should go through with the millage proposal, Devier said.

Three informational meetings are scheduled for May 2, 9 and 23, each beginning at 6 p.m. at the college.
