Serious injury in Sturgis crash

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Marshall Post are investigating a two vehicle crash involving a mini-van and a motorcycle which happened Wednesay at 12:35pm. The 2006 Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle, driven by a 37 year old male from Fishers, IN, was eastbound on US-12 in Sturgis, when a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country mini-van driven by 38 year old female, from Sturgis, pulled out from the parking lot of Dairy Queen onto US-12 in front of the motorcycle.

The driver of the motorcycle was transported to Sturgis Hospital by Life Care Ambulance and then flown to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo by West Michigan Air Care.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor. The driver of the motorcycle is believed to not have been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The names of the drivers involved are being withheld as the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.

Assisting at the scene were Life Care Ambulance, St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department, Sturgis Police Department and Tri-Township Fire/Rescue Department.
