Stolen property found following traffic stop

A vehicle stopped on Constantine Road in Lockport Township led to the recovery of stolen items and the discovery of narcotics.

According to a Three Rivers Police Department media release, the vehicle was stopped Wednesday just outside the city limits, and an occupant fled on foot and threw a firearm into the nearby St. Joseph River.

The St. Joseph County Dive and Rescue Team recovered the weapon and further evidence led to the execution of a search warrant at a location in the 300 block of East Michigan Avenue.

Officers discovered methamphetamine, heroin, fentanyl and stolen items taken from a residential burglary Tuesday in the 700 block of Balsam Drive. Firearms, ammunition and electronics were taken during the break-in.

Investigators discovered that the firearm recovered from the river was the one stolen earlier in the week, according to authorities.

A 40-year-old Three Rivers resident was arrested at the Michigan Avenue location and charged with receiving and concealing stolen property, and felon in possession of ammunition, according to Three Rivers police.
