Two children injured in Cass County crash

Two children were treated for minor injuries after the car they were in was involved in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday in Cass County’s Penn Township.

Sheriff Richard Behnke said deputies were called shortly before 4 p.m. to the intersection of Gards Prairie Road and Quaker Street in response to a personal-injury accident.

Investigators said 26-year-old Schoolcraft resident Johannes Erasmus was driving south when he stopped at the four-way intersection. Authorities said he pulled his vehicle forward to better see potential oncoming traffic.

Erasmus told deputies he drove further into the intersection to see around a row of corn when his vehicle was struck by a westbound car driven by Kara Gaideski, 24, of Dowagiac.

Her two children were transported to Lakeland Hospital in Niles and treated for minor injuries. Erasmus and a passenger were treated at the scene; Gaideski was not injured.
