Volunteers work on trail

Volunteers worked today (Wednesday) with representatives from the Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy at a location in Fabius Township.

The conservancy hosted the “Create the Corey Lake Trail” workday at the Corey Lake North Bay Preserve near Three Rivers.

In early July, the Mittler Family, their children and grandchildren, who donated the preserve to SWMLC in 2014, met at the preserve to lay out the trail system and begin cutting back invasive growth, including Japanese honeysuckle.

The conservancy’s “Wednesday Warriors” will help lead the charge in creating the new trail through the north end of Corey Lake. The trail falls within a 17-acre parcel of oak-hickory forest on one side of Coon Hollow Road and the North Bay wetlands, with more than 1,500 feet of lake-frontage on the opposite side.
