Megan Miholer, 45

Megan Lee Miholer, age 45, of Three Rivers died unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 in Grand Junction, Colorado from complications of her long battle with kidney disease.  She was born in Three Rivers on February 5, 1974 to Thomas L. Miholer, Jr.  and Mary (Mathews) Miholer ( O’Connor). Megan grew up in a close knit neighborhood on Pine Street, where many playmates and life-long friends were made. She first attended Hoppin Elementary and was then accepted into Norton Elementary’s program for gifted and talented children.

Megan was a graduate of Three Rivers High School class of 1992, where she was active in athletics, and played for four years in both basketball and track. She held the school discus record for many years.  She was also a member of the National Honor Society.  Megan held many jobs during her high school years, but loved working at her grandparent’s business, Neff’s Flower Shop, most of all. She also worked as a server at Pineview Golf Course in the summers, making many friends there.

Megan graduated from Albion College in 1998 with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. While at Albion, she met and married her former husband, Lee Cornish in May of 1994.  Dylan and Madi were born while they lived in Albion while Megan finished school before the family re-located to Three Rivers.  Megan’s most loved accomplishment was being a wonderful mother to Dylan and Madi.

Megan was an intrepid traveler and along with Lee, traveled to Florida, Mexico, Hawaii, and Ireland. With her mother, sister and cousins, she visited Paris in 2000. She especially loved spending time with family in the Bahamas and Florida, where she enjoyed swimming, snorkeling, beach combing, and soaking in the sunshine. Megan learned to swim with ease as a one year old and was rarely out of sight of water from then on. Boating, water-skiing, jet-skiing, and other water sports were among her favorite activities.

Due to kidney failure at the age of 28, Megan was unable to further her career aspirations, but she boldly battled her disease for nearly 20 years. Despite her years of hospitalizations, surgeries, and thousands of hours on dialysis, Megan found time to work out, attend family events, and take on new interests and activities. She recently developed a passion for the sport of Pickleball, making new friends in Florida last Spring on the pickleball courts there.

Megan had a creative bent, which showed in her knack for interior decorating and writing. She wrote eloquently about the influence her grandmother, Marilyn Miholer, had on her life which she read at her memorial service a couple of weeks ago.

While Megan’s life was cut short by her disease, in her life she bravely soldiered on in the face of much adversity, with determination and great love for her family.

She was preceded in passing by grandparents, Thomas and Marilyn (Neff) Miholer, and John and Shirley Mathews, and several Great Aunts and Uncles.

Megan leaves to cherish in her memory, daughter Madisyn Cornish, with soon to be first granddaughter, Maylee Evans to be born in December 2019; son, Dylan Cornish; mother, Mary (Michael) O’Connor; father, Thomas Miholer; brother, Zach (Darcy) Miholer; sister, Marissa Miholer; aunts, Laurie (Garry) Miholer-Zachritz, Julie (Rick) Nemire, Lois (Dave) Motz, and Lori (Greg) Southland; uncles, David (Lisa Armstong) Miholer, Jim (Fayma) Mathews, Kent (Becky) Mathews, and Doug (Lilly) Mathews; nieces, McKenzie Miholer, Maycie Miholer, Maliyah Flowers, Monae Flowers; nephews, Bailey Miholer, Charlie Miholer, and Cameron Flowers. Many, many cousins. She is also survived by her great-aunts Thelda Matthews, Sandy Mathews, and great uncle Richard McArdle.
