IAC in Mendon to close

A major employer in Mendon plans to close next year.

Auto supplier International Automotive Components Group informed United Auto Workers Local 503 members that the plant will shut down in May after current work orders are fulfilled.

Union officials indicated they are meeting today with company representatives in order to secure severance packages for the 230 people affected by the situation. Depending on the outcome of discussions, the union may authorize a strike if severance packages are not offered.

IAC, which once had a workforce of 600 people, laid off 83 workers a year ago and dissolved another 64 hourly positions in June 2018.

The Mendon plant manufactures instrument panels and consoles, door systems and overhead systems. It supplies products for more than 300 vehicle nameplates.
