Electronics recycling put on hold

A recycling program that required more than a year to develop at Westside Landfill in Fabius Township is on hold for the time being.

Eric Shafer, district manager for Waste Management of Michigan, said offering a weekly electronics recycling event was a goal he had in mind for years and was finally able to implement last month.

Then, out of concern from the COVID-19 pandemic, Shafer said it was best to put the program on hiatus until a future date.

Once it resumes, the Roberts Road facility will again accept televisions, computer equipment and accessories over a four-hour period every Saturday.

Shafer said despite the current hiatus, the employees are still being paid.

The fate of the next quarterly collection of Styrofoam, scheduled for June 13, is to be decided soon.
