River cleanup start postponed

The St. Joseph County Conservation District is postponing the start of its 2020 River Cleanup season.

The 10th season was supposed to kick off this coming Saturday in what was going to be the first of five cleanups led by the Centreville-based agency this summer.

Shaun Grace, a conservation district employee whose work includes coordinating and executing the river cleanups, said ongoing restrictions related to COVID-19 necessitated a delay.

Grace said he has full intentions of planning five cleanups this year, but they won’t be scheduled until most or all government-related restrictions are lifted.

More details, once available, will be posted on the agency’s website.

Grace wished to note that the cleanups this summer will focus on the Pigeon River and the Prairie River.

Furthermore, he said TH Plastics of Mendon stepped up and made a $2,000 donation, which will help the agency lead its five cleanups.
