Sturgis business updates protective plans due to COVID-19

Iceberg Enterprises in Sturgis recently took a number of steps to protect its employees after an undisclosed number of workers tested positive for COVID-19.

Company officials two weeks ago were advised that a number of employees had tested positive for coronavirus. As a result, company officials evacuated the facility and launched what it called a deep cleaning/aeration procedure.

Although the number of cases at Iceberg was not released, the overall confirmed cases in St. Joseph County climbed from 32 positive cases in late April to 86 positive cases as of Sunday.

Iceberg officials said the company worked with the tri-county health agency to ensure protective measures in written plans were up-to-date and determined that closing facilities through May 13 was the most protective course of action for their employees and the community.
