CDC recommends getting flu shot

The Centers for Disease Control recommends a yearly flu vaccine as the most-important step in protecting against flu viruses.

Getting a flu vaccine during the 2020-2021 flu season will be more important than ever, according to the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency.

Flu vaccines will not prevent COVID-19, but will reduce the burden of flu illnesses and conserve scarce medical resources for the care of people with COVID-19.

CDC officials have worked with vaccine manufacturers to produce extra flu vaccine available this coming flu season.

The tri-county agency offers free vaccinations to qualifying families with children age 18 or younger through the Vaccines for Children program. It is for children who are not insured or whose insurance does not cover immunizations.

An appointment can be scheduled for St. Joseph County’s Tuesday Immunization Clinics in Three Rivers. Its number is 273-2161, ext. 208.
