Donor sponsors county K-9 gear

A citizen donor has sponsored St. Joseph County K-9 Skyler, enabling the department to supply the dog with needed protective gear.

Skyler will receive a bullet- and stab-protective vest from Vested Interest in K9s Inc.

Skyler’s vest is sponsored by Sharon Peters of Grosse Pointe Shores and will be embroidered with “In memory of Det. Lt. Richard J. Scott.”

Scott was a retired member of the Roseville Police Department northeast of Detroit, and died 10 years ago after a period of failing health.

Delivery of the vest is expected in the next several weeks.

Vested Interest in K9s Inc. was established in 2009 and has provided more than 4,000 vests in each of the 50 states.

Each vest is valued at nearly $2,000.
