Vicksburg testing for elevated manganese levels

The village of Vicksburg is investigating potential elevated manganese levels in its municipal water system.

Vicksburg officials said there is currently no state or federal requirement to test for manganese in a municipal water system, and the village is ordering a precautionary advisory only.

Vicksburg officials are conducting additional testing to determine if the village’s water meets all health advisory limits for manganese after an operational well tested slightly above recommended levels.

Testing will be completed and results received by 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Anyone on the Village water system who has a child under the age of 12 months and requires bottled water is asked to call 649-1919, and delivery will be arranged.
