Unemployment rate increases

The June unemployment rate in St. Joseph County increased by four-tenths of a percent compared to a month earlier. The monthly labor-market analysis by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget showed St. Joseph County’s 6.1 percent June unemployment rate was more than May’s 5.7 percent. Sheriff advised that man was found

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office was advised Thursday by the White Pigeon Police Department that Charles Rusher was found in the St. Joseph County community. White Pigeon Police advised that Rusher had broken into a residence during the nighttime hours and fell asleep on a couch. The homeowner discovered Rusher around 8:30 a.m. and notified authorities. Embezzlement charges issued

A warrant was issued Wednesday for the former executive assistant of the Three Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce. The action comes a day after the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office authorized a charge of embezzlement against Deb Herring, 57, of Schoolcraft. The Cass County Sheriff’s Department has identified the suspect in a stabbing incident earlier this week. Charles Ray Eubanks, 32, of Cassopolis, was arrested following the early-morning incident July 20 in Vandalia. Wanted man arrested

A man wanted in Sturgis on attempted murder and malicious destruction of property charges has been arrested. Sturgis Police said Jorel Gefferard was arrested Saturday night at Gateway Village. Police believe Gefferard attacked another man with a hatchet at the Cato Lane apartments shortly before midnight Thursday.
