Grants approved for construction of pork processing facility

The Michigan Strategic Fund has approved $12.5 million in grants to support the construction of a 550,000-square-foot pork-processing facility in Branch County. The Clemens Food Group operation will acquire 450 acres at the southeast corner of I- 69 and Jonesville Road in Coldwater Township. Volunteers from The Salvation Army and Sturgis Toy Run came together last week for a food and toy giveaway. 3 local agencies receive DHS funds

The St. Joseph County Department of Human Services board recently voted to provide a total of $3,500 to three area agencies. DHS director Cindy Underwood said a $500 donation was made to the St. Joseph County United Way K-9 Fund. 50 families benefit from White Pigeon Food Drive

The White Pigeon Fire Department collected more than 2,600 pounds of food to be shared with 50 White Pigeon families over the holidays.
